Laparoscopic Hernia Repair
A hernia is a weakness in the abdominal wall that allows part of the bowel or other abdominal structures to protrude through it. There are different types of hernias. Inguinal hernias are the most frequent type to require surgical intervention.
Inguinal hernias can cause swelling and pain. A dragging sensation may be felt in the groin. In some cases, a hernia may feel like a lump or a bulge under the skin. Surgical repair may be recommended to prevent bowel obstruction or bowel strangulation.
The surgeons of
Hudson Valley Surgical Group
are experienced with traditional open surgery techniques and the latest laparoscopic techniques to repair hernias. Laparoscopic surgery uses minimally invasive surgical techniques that are performed through tiny incisions. Minimally invasive surgery results in less scarring and less postsurgical discomfort than traditional open surgery. As an outpatient procedure, laparoscopic hernia repair also makes it possible for you to return to your regular activities more quickly.
After a thorough evaluation and diagnosis, your surgeon will recommend the best surgical approach for you.
